Bengo-bengo Education Forest
Quoted from the Website of the Faculty of Forestry, Unhas, the Unhas Education Forest is a forest designated for practical activities, research, training, community service and research collaborations both at home and abroad. In addition, this area can also be used as a place for natural recreation based on environmental education. The Hasanuddin University Education Forest area is located in Limapocoe Village, Kec. Cenrana, Kab. Maros, South Sulawesi. This location is about 65 km from the center of the capital city of South Sulawesi Province, while from the center of the capital city of Maros Regency it is about 34 km. This area can be reached by using two-wheeled vehicles or four-wheeled vehicles with a travel time of ± 1 hour 30 minutes from Makassar City. This location is crossed by the axis road that connects Makassar-Maros-Bone.
The Educational Forest has strategic physical potential, biological potential, and social potential to be managed as a center for education, research, training, and forestry services in South Sulawesi and the Eastern Region of Indonesia.
Community activities in and around the Unhas Education Forest are rice fields, gardening, animal husbandry, and some activities use wood and non-timber forest products such as taking firewood, tapping pine resin, tapping palm sugar, making palm sugar, harvesting mahogany and pine seeds, the use of medicinal plants, mushrooms, and others. These community activities form an agro-ecosystem that can be a place for learning with stakeholders
Along with the community-based forest management paradigm and the development of the current Unhas Forestry Bachelor Education Curriculum, the Community-Based Education Forest Management Concept is a demand for the implementation of forestry graduate education. Therefore, the Unhas Education Forest will be managed with an ecosystem approach and a socio-economic approach to the culture of the community in and around the education forest.
